Archive for Ramblings

It’s that time of year again!

I have been super busy with my schoolwork and other life things. I am still eating gluten free and feeling really pretty wonderful. I have my bad days, but my life used to only consist of bad days, so I am overjoyed at how I am feeling now! It’s been almost a year of this steady almost normal person life. Cross my fingers, I just want to keep going forward like this! So that’s the life update 🙂

Craft update:

I do have some more inventory to post, so I will work on getting some of that done very soon. Also, since it is getting cold again I am re-inspired to crochet more awesome wears. I have found that summer just isn’t as inspiring of a time to crochet. I need the cold weather to get cozy underneath whatever I am working on.

Jewelry is a whole different story and I will resume that as soon as I have some free time as well. I am very inspired to create new things, I have so many ideas floating around my head, I just need to get them into reality! I am trying to find that gentle balance between, classes, homework, housework, couponing, doctor appointments, and creative outlets. So far, I have only incorporated a few of that list into my life and am trying to find a way to have it all.

To anyone who reads this, thank you a thousand times for caring about me 🙂 I truly Love you!

New Life – Upcycle

So my Mom found a bunch of my Great-Grandmother’s or Grandmothers (not sure which)  broken jewelry to take apart and make into new creations. I am super excited to upcycle them into incredible pieces. It remains to be seen if I will be able to part with them, hahaha. Here is a picture of some of the new parts I get to work with 🙂 The white necklace in the second picture I am going to basically take apart to put it back together almost exactly as pictured, I may or may not put my own twist on it, but it is so gorgeous I can’t wait to wear it out! So here is the before shot….will post the “afters” as they are executed.

The picture below is from my photography project – project 365 (take a picture every day for a year)….If you want to see any of the other project pictures, they live at this link: http://public.fotki.com/aameri/my-albums/photo-projects/project-365/?view=roll

DNA Pair of Earrings

Click on the pictures they get bigger!

Price: SOLD!

I think it goes without saying that we all know I LOVE these earrings. They are definitely not the original idea for the DNA earrings I had in my ever ambitious mind but they are adorable. Also, most people won’t understand what they are, so they can act as a conversation piece or a way to weed out the people you DON’T want to talk to. hahaha. OK, enough of that. These nucleotide pairs are on the same earring post instead of being side by side because since they will be seen basically independently of one another, it didn’t make sense to have the matching bases be on either side. OK, enough rambling about why the pairs are where they are……

Originally I was attempting my hand at some serious wire work for these. I wanted the nucleotide pairs to be side by side (as they should be) within a double helix wire structure. I don’t have the right wire or I don’t have right hands, either way it didn’t happen as I was planning. So these came into being. They are made from letter beads and a pretty black metal star-burst charm hanging from the bottom. I will continue to try and make the double helix because eventually it has to work, right??

What a huge explanation for a small pair of earrings, I can’t help it, the dork in me just wrote this post.

Just for illustration of what a total dork I am, here is a photo from my 365 project; this is where I am sitting now and every time I am on my computer this is my view.

Back to business…..

25% of the proceeds of this sale will go to Lymenaide!!

Size: almost 2 inches long

Color: Black and Silver

Material: Metal wire, Metal Charm and Plastic Beads

Letters for Lyme 2011 Responses

I was wondering if anyone else got any responses worth talking about?

Letters for Lyme 2011 in my opinion was a successful campaign. Many people joined in the movement. It felt great to be part of something so much larger than myself. Seeing all of us united is very indicative of the things to come, of the things we can accomplish together.

I sent out a total of around 70 snail mail letters not including the 50 plus emails.

I received two letters in the regular mail and a few emails back. At least the two snail mail letters showed that whoever received the letter actually read it, or most of it.

The replies were slightly intelligent. They cited Lyme Disease, explained the research being done and who is doing what. Blah Blah, agreed with the IDSA guidelines and then and directed me to contact the CDC. The old game of pass the buck. However, it was nice to get some sort of response. In spite of the fact that I only received few responses it felt like a small victory. The more people that hear our stories and our voices, the more awareness we spread and that is the point, right?

Yay for Bartering!

How I love meeting all these incredible crafters and business owners with Lyme. This means we can use the barter system to trade and get what we both want! I love Lisa’s Candles (smellsamazing.com) and she said she very much wanted some Lyme Awareness Jewelry. we are trading my jewelry for her candles. Sooooo, excited! Those candles make my house so much more inviting by filling it with such delicious scents. It warms my soul as well as my olfactory senses, I swear. So these are the first two pieces I am trading with. I am also making a necklace, soon I will post a blog with the picture of that. I haven’t fully formulated the path I want to take with making the necklace quite yet, so I don’t have any idea of what it will look like yet. All in the fun of creating it 🙂

I will be making some more similar to these and posting them for sale soon enough.

One more, Yay for bartering and meeting awesome people in the process!

I love my Lyme Family!!
